Poetry in ridicule and transformation
Seminar with Euripides Laskaridis
Euripides Laskaridis combines performative tools from his extensive research on ridicule and transformation with his background in physical theatre, contemporary dance, and Greek drama, blending both tragic and comedic elements. By working from the grotesque and everything considered ‘external,’ he guides participants in creating ‘osmotic’ characters through the use of wigs, play, and physical exploration. This workshop aims to uncover the poetry within absurdity, encouraging participants to unleash their unique artistic texture and creative potential.
ABOUT
Euripides Laskaridis is a director and performer. Two dominant themes run through his artistic identity: ridicule and transformation. His work transcends the boundaries of theatre, dance, and visual arts.
He studied acting in Athens at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre and directing (MFA) at New York’s Brooklyn College on an Onassis Foundation Scholarship.
Performing since 1995, he has collaborated with acclaimed directors such as Dimitris Papaioannou and Robert Wilson, while directing his own creations since 2000. In 2016, he received the prestigious Pina Bausch Fellowship and was named Promising Talent by the German magazine tanz in 2017.
In 2009 he founded OSMOSIS performing arts company, presenting stage and site-specific performances, as well as video artworks and award-winning short films at major theaters and venues worldwide.
His latest stage work, LAPIS LAZULI, has been touring at renowned venues worldwide, not least, the performance that will follow this seminar on February 20th, 21st, and 22nd in Florence at Teatro La Pergola.
